Size 5 mm (U.S. 8 or H) crochet hook or size needed to obtain gauge.

INSTRUCTIONS
The instructions are written for smallest size. If changes are necessary for larger sizes the instructions are written thus ( ).
Note: Poncho is worked from top down.

FRONT and BACK (make alike)
Ch 40 (40-48).
1st row: (WS). 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook. 1 sc in each ch to end of ch. Turn. 39 (39-47) sc.
2nd row: Ch 3 (counts as dc). 1 dc in each of next 17 (17-21) sc. 2 dc in next sc. 3 dc in next sc (center st). Place marker on center st. 2 sc in next sc. 1 dc in each sc to end of row. Turn. 43 (43-51) dc.
3rd row: Ch 3 (counts as dc). 1 dc in each of next 19 (19-23) sc. 2 dc in next sc. 3 dc in next dc (center st).
Move marker to center st. 2 sc in next dc. 1 dc in each dc to end of row. Turn. 47 (47-55) dc.
4th row: Ch 1. 1 sc in each dc to last dc. 1 sc in top of ch-3. Move marker to center st. Turn.
5th row: Ch 4 (counts as dc and ch 1). Miss first 2 sc. *1 dc in next sc. Ch 1. Miss next sc. Rep from * to center st. (1 dc. Ch 1) 3 times in center st. Move marker to center st. **Miss next sc. 1 dc in next sc. Ch 1. Rep from ** to last sc. 1 dc in last sc. Turn.
6th row: Ch 1. 1 sc in first dc. *1 sc in next ch-1 sp. 1 sc in next dc. Rep from * to last ch-1 sp. 1 sc in last ch-1 sp. 1 sc in 3rd ch of ch-4. Move marker to center st. Turn.
7th row: Ch 3 (counts as dc). Miss first sc. 1 dc in each sc to sc before marker. 2 dc in next sc. 3 dc in
center st. Move marker to center st. 2 dc in next sc. 1 dc in each sc to end of row. Turn.
8th row: Ch 3 (counts as dc). Miss first dc. 1 dc in each dc to dc before marker. 2 dc in next dc. 3 dc in center st. Move marker to center st. 2 dc in next dc. 1 dc in each dc to end of row. Turn.
Rep 4th to 8th rows of pat 3(4-5) times more and cont inc 4 sts in 5th, 7th and 8th rows, as before. 95 (107- 127) sts.
Next row: As 4th row. Fasten off.

FINISHING
Pin garment pieces to measurements. Cover with a damp cloth leaving cloth to dry.
Sew side seams.

Drawstring: Make ch 50 ins [127 cm] long. Fasten off. Beg at center Front weave Drawstring through 2nd row at neck edge.

Fringe: Cut strands of yarn 10 ins [25.5 cm] long. Take 3 strands tog and knot into fringe ¾ inch [1.5 cm] apart across lower edge of Poncho. Trim fringe evenly.
