Size 6.5 mm (U.S. 10½) knitting needles or size needed to obtain gauge.

GAUGE
13 sts and 20 rows = 4 ins [10 cm] in stocking st with Bernat® Softee Chunky.

ABBREVIATIONS

Cont = Continue.
Inc = Increase.
K = Knit.
Rep = Repeat.
RS = Right side.
St(s) = Stitch(es).
WS = Wrong side.
Tog = Together.

INSTRUCTIONS
The instructions are written for smallest size. If changes are necessary for larger sizes, the instructions will be written thus ( ).

FRONT and BACK (make alike)
With MC, cast on 40 (44-48) sts.
Work 3 rows in garter st (knit every row), noting that first row is WS.
Next row: (RS). Knit.
Next row: K3. Purl to last 3 sts. K3.
Rep last 2 rows until work from beg measures 26 (28-30) ins [66 (71-76) cm], ending with RS facing for next row.
Work 4 rows in garter st. Cast off knitwise.

FINISHING
Pin garment pieces to measurements and cover with damp cloth leaving cloth to dry.
Sew cast off edge of one piece to side of other piece shown in Diagram. Place markers along front neck edge 3½ (4-4) ins [9 (10-10) cm] up from Front seam at"V".
Hood:With two strands of A, cast on 76 sts. Work 7 rows in garter st, noting that first row is WS and ending with RS facing for next row.
Change to single strand of MC and proceed in stocking st until work from beg measures 6 ins [15 cm], ending with RS facing for next row.
Next row: K1. Inc 1 st in next st. Knit to last 2 sts. Inc 1 st in next st. K1.
Starting with a purl row, work 3 rows in stocking st.
Rep last 4 rows 5 times more, ending with RS facing for next row. 88 sts.
Cont even in stocking st until work from beg measures 11 ins [28 cm], ending with RS facing for next row. Cast off knitwise.
Sew back seam. Pin neck edge of Hood to neck edge of Poncho between markers aligning back seam of Hood with back V of Poncho and front edges of Hood with markers. Sew in position.
Fringe: Cut A 10 ins [25 cm] long. Take 2 strands tog, fold in half and knot into fringe spaced ¾ inch [2 cm] apart around lower edge of Poncho. Trim fringe evenly.
