Knit Version

Size 4.5 mm (U.S. 7) knitting needles or size needed to obtain gauge.
Crochet Version
Main Color (MC) (Black)
1 ball for all sizes
Contrast A (Purple)
1 ball for all sizes
Size 6 mm (U.S. J or 10) crochet hook or size needed to obtain gauge.
GAUGE
Knit Version: 16 sts and 22 rows =
4 ins [10 cm] in stocking st.
Crochet Version: 11 dc and 6 rows =
4 ins [10 cm].

INSTRUCTIONS
Knit Version
With MC, cast on 111 (141-171) sts.
1st row: (WS). Knit. Break MC.
**2nd row: With A, K3. *KW2.
(KW3) 3 times. KW2. K5. Rep from
* to end of row, working K3 instead of
K5 at end of row. Break A.
3rd row: With MC, purl, dropping
extra loops of KW2 and KW3 sts.
4th row: Purl. Break MC.
5th row: With A, (PW3) twice. PW2.
P5. *PW2. (PW3) 3 times. PW2. P5.
Rep from * to last 3 sts. PW2. (PW3)
twice. Break A.
6th row: With MC, knit, dropping
extra loops of PW2 and PW3 sts.
7th row: Knit. Break MC.
8th and 9th rows: As 2nd and 3rd
rows.
With MC, cast off purlwise.
Braided Ties: (make 4 with MC and
2 with A).
Cut 12 strands of MC and 6 strands
of A 50 ins [127 cm] long. Take 3
strands tog, fold in half and knot into
fringe at end of Belt alternating colors
as shown in picture. Braid each Fringe.
Knot securely and trim ends evenly.
Rep for other end of Belt.
Crochet Version
Note: To change color, work to last 2
loops on hook. Draw loop of next
color through 2 loops on hook to
complete st and proceed in next color.
With MC, ch 85 (109-133).
Foundation row: (RS). 1 sc in 2nd ch
from hook. 1 sc in each ch to end of
chain. 84 (108-132) sc. Join A. Turn.
Break MC.
1st row: With A, ch 1. Working into
front loop only of each st, 1 sc in each
of first 3 sc. *1 hdc in next sc. 1 dc in
each of next 4 sc. 1 hdc in next sc. 1 sc
in each of next 6 sc. Rep from * to last
9 sc. 1 hdc in next sc. 1 dc in each of
next 4 sc. 1 hdc in next sc. 1 sc in each
of last 3 sc. Join MC at end of row.
Turn. Break A.
2nd row: With MC, ch 1. Working in
both loops, 1 sc in each st to end of
row. Join A. Turn. Break MC.
3rd row: With A, ch 3 (counts as dc).
Working into front loop only of each
st, 1 dc in next sc. 1 hdc in next sc. *1
sc in each of next 6 sc. 1 hdc in next sc.
1 dc in each of next 4 sc. 1 hdc in next sc.
Rep from * to last 9 sc. 1 sc in each of
next 6 sc. 1 hdc in next sc. 1 dc in each
of last 2 sc. Join MC. Turn. Break A.
4th row: As 2nd row.
5th row: As 1st row.
6th row: With MC, ch 2. Working in
both loops, 1 hdc in each st to end of
row. Fasten off.
Braided Ties: (make 4 with MC and
2 with A).
