Placemats and napkin rings with pansy details. Crochet the whole set in Bernat Handicrafter Cotton.

Make this with:

MATERIALS
Bernat® Handicrafter Cotton
(50 g/ 1.75 oz)
Main Color (MC) (Beige): 9 balls
Contrast A (Ecru): 4 balls
Contrast B (Purple): 3 balls
Contrast C (Light Purple): 1 ball
Contrast D (Yellow): 1 ball
Contrast E (Cream): 1 ball

Size 5 mm (U.S. H or 8) crochet hook or size needed to obtain gauge.

GAUGE
13 sc and 15 rows = 4 ins [10 cm].

INSTRUCTIONS
Note
: When working from chart, wind small balls of the colors to be used, one for each area of color in the design. Start new colors at appropriate points. To change color, draw new color through last 2 loops of previous color as indicated.

Place Mat (make 4)
***With MC, ch 54.
1st row: (RS). 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook. 1 sc in each sc to end of ch. 53 sc. Turn.
2nd row: Ch 1. 1 sc in each sc to end of row. Turn.
Rep last row twice more.
Next row: With A, as 2nd row.
Next 3 rows: With MC, as 2nd row.
Next row: With E, as 2nd row.
Next 2 rows: With MC, as 2nd row.
Next row: With MC, 1 sc in each of next 11 sc. Work 1st row of Chart I, reading row from right to left. With MC, 1 sc in each of next 11 sc. Turn.
Next row: With MC, 1 sc in each of next 11 sc. Work 2nd row of Chart I, reading row from left to right. With MC, 1 sc in each of next 11 sc. Turn.
Chart I is now in position. Work Chart I to end of chart.
Next 2 rows: With MC, as 2nd row.
Next row: With E, as 2nd row.
Next 3 rows: With MC, as 2nd row.
Next row: With A, as 2nd row.
Next 4 rows: With MC, as 2nd row. Fasten off.
With RS of work facing, join B with sl st to any corner.
1st rnd: With B, ch 1. 3 sc in same st as ss. 1 sc in each st around working 3 sc at corner sts.
2nd rnd: Ch 1. Working from left to right, instead of from right to left as usual, work 1 sc in each sc around. Join with sl st to first sc. Fasten off.
Beg with 6th st from left and right edges, with A and E embroider chain st 3 sts apart as illustrated.
With D cross st center of pansies as illustrated.
Napkin Ring (make 4)
With MC, ch 19. Join with sl st to form a ring.
1st rnd: 1 sc in same sp as last sl st. 1 sc in each ch around. Join with sl st to first sc. Ch 1.
2nd rnd: 1 sc in same sp as last sl st. 1 sc in each sc around. Join A with sl st to first sc. Ch 1.
3rd and 4th rnds:With A, as 2nd rnd.
5th and 6th rnds: With MC, as 2nd rnd.
7th rnd:With B, as 2nd rnd.
8th rnd: With B, working from left to right, instead of from right to left as usual, work 1 sc in each sc around. Join with sl st to first sc. Fasten off.
Join B with sl st to any rem loop of other side of Ring.
1st rnd: Ch 1. 1 sc in same sp as last sl st. 1 sc in each ch around. Join with sl st to first sc. Ch 1.
2nd rnd: Working from left to right, instead of from right to left as usual, work 1 sc in each sc around. Join with sl st to first sc. Fasten off.
Pansy Motif: (make 4)
With C, ch 4. Join with sl st to form a ring.
1st rnd: Ch 1. (2 sc in ring. Ch 2) 5 times. Join with ss to first sc. Break C.
2nd rnd: Join B with sl st to any ch 2 sp. Ch 2. (2 hdc. Ch 3. 1 sl st in first ch– Picot made. 3 hdc) all in same ch 2 sp. [Miss next sc. 1 sc in next sc. (3 hdc. Picot. 3 hdc) all in next ch 2 sp] twice. [Miss next sc. 1 sc in next sc. (1 hdc. 9 dc. 1 hdc) all in next ch 2 sp] twice. Miss next sc. 1 sc in next sc. Join with sl st to top of ch 2. Fasten off.
With Yellow, embroider center of Pansy using bullion st as illustrated.
Sew Pansy Motifs to Ring as illustrated.
