(140 g/5 oz; 233 m/255 yds)
26948 Slate Shades
Beret: 1 ball
Scarf: 2 balls

Sizes 5 mm (U.S. 8) and 5.5 mm (U.S. 9) knitting needles or size needed to obtain gauge. Cable needle.

GAUGE
13 sts and 20 rows = 4 ins [10 cm] with larger needles in stocking st.

STITCH GLOSSARY
Alt = Alternate(ing).
Approx = Approximately.
c8F = Slip next 4 stitches onto cable needle and leave at front of work. K4, then K4 from cable needle.
c16F = Slip next 8 stitches onto cable needle and leave at front of work. K8, then K8 from cable needle.
c16B = Slip next 8 stitches onto cable needle and leave at back of work. K8, then K8 from cable needle.
cont = Continue(ity).
dec = Decrease(ing).

9th, 11th, 13th, 15th and 17th rows: K24.
19th row: C16B. K8.
21st and 23rd rows: K24.
24th row: P24.
These 24 rows form Cable Panel Pat.

BERET
With smaller needles, cast on 74 sts.
1st row: (RS). K1. *P2. K2. Rep from * to last st. K1.
Rep last row until work from beg measures 2 ins [5 cm], ending with a WS row.
Next row: (RS). K1. *(K1. M1) 5 times. K1.
Rep from * to last st. K1. 134 sts
Next row: K4. *M1. K4. M1. K3. Rep from * to last 4 sts. K4. 170 sts.
Change to larger needles and proceed as follows:
Next row: K1. (Work 1st row of Cable Panel Pat) 7 times. K1.
Cont in pat, as established, until 24 rows of Cable Panel Pat are complete.

Proceed in pat as follows:
1st row: Work 1st row of Cable Panel Pat over next 24 sts. P2. Work 1st row of Cable Pat over last 24 sts.
2nd row:Work 2nd row of Cable Panel Pat over next 24 sts. K2. Work 2nd row of Cable Panel Pat over last 24 sts.
Cont in pat as established until Scarf measures approx 60 ins [152.5 cm], ending with a 24th row of Cable Panel Pat.
