MATERIALS

Contrast A (31710 or 26707 Silvered Red) 2 (1) ball(s)
Size 5 mm (U.S. H or 8) crochet hook or size needed to obtain gauge. 14 ins [35.5 cm] square pillow form. Stuffing. Black and white felt for eyes.

GAUGE:
14 sc and 16 rows = 4 ins [10 cm].

INSTRUCTIONS
Front and Back (make 2 alike).
With MC, ch 2.
1st row: 3 sc in 2nd ch from hook. Turn.
2nd row: Ch 1. 2 sc in first sc. 1 sc in next sc. 2 sc in last sc. Turn.
3rd row: Ch 1. 1 sc in first sc. (1 sc.Wrap yarn around right index finger and make loop 1 inch [2.5 cm] long. Insert hook in st. Yoh and draw up a loop. Yoh and draw through 2 loops on hook – loop made) all in first sc. *Loop in next sc. Rep from * to last sc. (Loop. 2 sc) in last sc. Turn.
4th row: Ch 1. 2 sc in first sc. 1 sc in each st to last sc. 2 sc in last sc. Turn.
Rep 3rd and 4th rows until one side edge measures 14 ins [35.5 cm], ending on a 4th row.

Shaping: Next row: Ch 1. Draw up a loop in each of next 2 sts. Yoh and draw through all loops on hook – sc2tog made. 1 sc in each sc to last 2 sts. Sc2tog. Turn.
Next row: Ch 1. Sc2tog. *(Yoh and draw up a loop. Yoh and draw through 2 loops on hook) 3 times in next st. Yoh and draw through all loops on hook – cluster made. 1 sc in next sc. Rep from * to last 2 sts. Sc2tog. Break MC, join A. Turn.
Next row: With A, ch 1. Sc2tog. 1 sc in each st to last 2 sts. Sc2tog. Turn.
Rep last row to 3 sts.
Next row: Ch 1. Draw up a loop in each of next 3 sts. Yoh and draw through all loops on hook – sc3tog. Fasten off.

Nose
With A, ch 13.
1st row: 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook. 1 sc in each ch to end of ch. Turn. 12 sc.
2nd row: Ch 1. 1 sc in each sc to end of row. Turn.
Rep last row until piece from beg measures 3 ins [7.5 cm]. Fasten off.
Stitch A loosely around outer edge of piece and gather to form Nose.
Stuff lightly.

Pom-pom: Wind MC around 4 fingers 80 times. Tie tightly in the middle and leave a long end for attaching to hat. Cut loops at both ends and trim to smooth round shape.

Finishing: Pin Front and Back tog. Join corresponding color to any corner of pillow. Ch 1. Working through both thicknesses, work in sc across 3 sides, changing color when neccessary. Insert pillow form. Work in sc across rem edge. Join with sl st to first sc.
Next rnd: Ch 1. Working from left to right instead of right to left as usual, work 1 reverse sc in each sc around, changing color when neccessary. Join with sl st to first sc. Fasten off.
Cut ovals from white felt and circles from black felt for eyes (see diagram) and glue to front of Pillow as shown in photo. Sew Nose to Front of Pillow as shown in photo. Attach Pom-pom to tip of Hat.
