Bernat Baby (50 g/1.75 oz; 175 m/191 yds)
Antique White (35008) 1 (1-1) ball

Sizes 2.5 mm (U.S. 2) and 3.25 mm (U.S. 3) circular knitting needles 16" [40.5 cm] long. Set of four size 3.25 mm (U.S. 3) double-pointed knitting needles or size needed to obtain gauge. Stitch marker.

GAUGE

28 sts and 36 rows = 4" [10 cm] with larger needles in stocking st.

INSTRUCTIONS
The instructions are written for smallest size. If changes are necessary for larger sizes the instructions will be written thus ( ). Numbers for eachsize are shown in the same color throughout the pattern. When only one number is given in black, it applies to all sizes.

With smaller circular needle, cast on 115 (121-131) sts. Join in rnd, placing marker on first st.
1st rnd: Purl.
2nd rnd: Knit.
Rep last 2 rnds 3 times more.

Change to larger circular needle and proceed in pat as follows:
1st rnd: K1. M1. K17 (18-19). Sl1. K2tog. psso. [K17 (18-20). M1. K1. M1.K17 (18-20). Sl1. K2tog. psso] twice. K17 (18-19). M1. K1
Note: First "Sl1. K2tog. psso" creates first Earflap, second "Sl1. K2tog.psso" creates forehead 'peak' and third "Sl1. K2tog. psso" creates 2nd Ear flap.
2nd rnd: Knit.
Rep last 2 rnds 7 (8-9) times more.

Shape crown: 1st rnd: K18 (19-20). Sl1. K2tog. psso. [K35 (37-41). Sl1. K2tog. psso] twice. K18 (19-20). 109 (115-125) sts.
2nd and alt rnds: Knit.
3rd rnd: K17 (18-19). Sl1. K2tog. psso. [K33 (35-39). Sl1. K2tog. psso]twice. Knit to end of rnd. 103 (109-119) sts.
5th rnd: K16 (17-18). Sl1. K2tog. psso. [K31 (33-37). Sl1. K2tog. psso]twice. Knit to end of rnd. 97 (103-113) sts.
Cont as established, dec 6 sts every alt rnd until there are 7 (13-11) sts,changing to double-pointed needles when appropriate. Break yarn,leaving a long end. Thread end tightly through rem sts and fastensecurely.

Ties
With RS facing and pair of double-pointed needles, pick up and knit5 sts at edge of Earap. Work in garter st (knit every row) until tiemeasures 7 (8-8)" [18 (20.5-20.5) cm]. Cast off.
Rep for other side.
