Baby Jacquards - Pretty Pattern Baby Socks (knit)

MATERIALS
Bernat Baby Jacquards Florals (100 g/3.5 oz; 316 m/346 yds)
Version 1: Macaroon (06012) 1 (1) ball
or Version 2: Bluebell (06201) 1 (1) ball

Note: 1 ball of yarn will make approx 5 pairs of socks. Set of four size 3.5 mm (U.S. 4) double-pointed knitting needles or size needed to obtain gauge. Stitch marker.

GAUGE
25 sts and 36 rows = 4" [10 cm] in stocking st.

INSTRUCTIONS
The instructions are written for smallest size. If changes are necessary for larger sizes the instructions will be written thus ( ). Numbers for eachsize are shown in the same color throughout the pattern. When only one number is given in black, it applies to all sizes.

Note: Due to the self-patterning nature of Bernat Baby Jacquards, color-changing results will vary.

Socks
Cast on 24 (28) sts loosely.
Divide onto 3 needles; 8,8,8 (9,10,9) sts. Join in rnd, placing marker on first st.
1st rnd: *K2. P2. Rep from * around.
Rep last rnd until work from beg measures 1" [2.5 cm].
Knit in rnds until work from beg measures 2 1/3 (3)" [6 (7.5) cm].

Divide for heel: K4 (5) from 1st needle onto end of 3rd needle. [12 (14) sts on 3rd needle for heel]. Divide rem 12 (14) sts over 2 needles for instep.
Next row: (WS). *Sl1P. P1. Rep from * to end of row.
Next row: Sl1P. Knit to end of row.
Rep last 2 rows until heel measures 1 (1 1/4)" [2.5 (3) cm], ending with a WS row.

Shape heel: 1st row: (RS). Sl1P. K5 (6). K2tog. K1. Turn.
2nd row: Sl1P. P1. P2tog. P1. turn.
3rd row: Sl1P. K2. K2tog. K1. turn.
4th row: Sl1P. P3. P2tog. P1. turn.

Size 3/6 mos only: 5th row: Sl1P. K4. K2tog. Turn.
6th row: Sl1P. P4. P2tog. 6 sts.

Size 12/18 mos only: 5th row: Sl1P. K4. K2tog. K1. Turn.
6th row: Sl1P. P5. P2tog. P1. 8 sts.

Both sizes: Shape instep: (RS). Pick up and knit 6 (8) sts along left side of Heel. With 2nd needle, K12 (14) for instep. With 3rd needle, pick up and knit 6 (8) sts along right side of Heel. Knit first 3 (4) sts from heel onto end of third needle. Slip rem 3 (4) sts from Heel onto beg of first needle. 30 (38) sts are now divided as 9 (12) sts on 1st needle, 12 (14) sts on 2nd needle and 9 (12) stson 3rd needle.
1st rnd: 1st needle: Knit to last 3 sts. K2tog. K1. 2nd needle: Knit. 3rd needle: K1. ssk. Knit to end of needle.
2nd rnd: Knit.
Rep last 2 rnds until there are 24 (28) sts divided as 6 (7) sts on 1st needle, 12 (14) sts on 2nd needle and 6 (7) sts on 3rd needle.

Cont even until foot from picked up sts at Heel measures 1 1/2 (2)" [4 (5) cm].

Shape toe: 1st rnd: 1st needle: Knit to last 3 sts. K2tog. K1. 2nd needle: K1. ssk. Knit to last 3 sts. K2tog. K1. 3rd needle: K1. ssk. Knit to end of needle.
2nd rnd: Knit.
Rep last 2 rnds until there are 12 (16) sts. Knit sts of 1st needle onto end of 3rd needle. Break yarn, leaving an end 8" [20.5 cm] long.
Graft 2 sets of 6 (8) sts tog.
