Soft Boucle - Hat & Long Scarf (knit)

SIZES
Hat: One size to fit average lady.
Scarf: Approx 5½ ins [14 cm] wide x 70 ins [178 cm] long

MATERIALS
Hat and Scarf
Bernat Soft Boucle (140g/5 oz) 2 balls

Size 6 mm (U.S. 10) knitting needles or size needed to obtain gauge.

GAUGE: 15 sts and 22 rows = 4 ins [10 cm] in stocking st.

INSTRUCTIONS
HAT
Cast on 60 sts loosely.
Proceed in stocking st until work from beg measures 11 ins [28 cm], ending with RS facing for next row.
Next row: *K2tog. Rep from * to end of row. 30 sts.
Next row: Purl. Next row: *K2tog. Rep from * to end of row. 15 sts.
Next row: Purl. Next row: *K2tog. Rep from * to last st. K1. 8 sts. Break yarn leaving 30 ins [76 cm] length for sewing up and thread through rem 8 sts. Draw tightly and secure. Sew seam from top of hat to bottom, reversing seam for last 5 ins [12.5 cm]. Roll up bottom of hat to form brim. Secure in place.

SCARF
Cast on 22 sts.
1st row: *K2. P2. Rep from * to last 2 sts. K2.
2nd row: *P2. K2. Rep from * to last 2 sts. P2. These 2 rows form (K2. P2) rib pat.

Cont in rib pat until work from beg measures 70 ins [177.5 cm]. Cast off in ribbing.

Fringe: Cut 14 ins [35.5 cm] lengths of yarn and taking 6 strands tog, knot into fringe evenly spaced across top and bottom of Scarf. Trim fringe evenly.
